Albon liquid – Coccidia

Symptoms: watery diarrhea, dehydration, abdominal distress, and vomiting

​Cleaning:  Ammonia – 1 cup per 9 cups water

​Dosing: 1x per day for 3 to 5 days or until symptoms are gone for 48 hours

Safe for: Puppies and nursing moms

Amoxi Drops – Antibiotic  URI/UTI

Symptoms – URI or UTI infections

​Dosing for 50 mg/ml suspension: 0.1 cc per lb. for 7 to 10 days (1.0 cc per 10lb)

Safe for:  Puppies and nursing moms

Cephalexin (dogs) - Infections

Symptoms: UTI, skin, URI, ears infections

Dosing:  2x per day

Safe for:  Puppies and nursing moms

Clavamox Pills - UTI

Symptoms - UTI and skin infections

Dosing: 6.25 mg. per lb  (safe for puppies and nursing moms)

Dosing: 1 cc. per 10 lbs - 2 X per day  (safe for puppies and nursing moms)

Doxycycline  – Infections & Lyme Disease

Treatment: Lyme, bacterial infections, URI, UTI, wounds 

Dosing:  Between 2 and 5 mg/lb depending on what you're treating; 1 or 2 x per day depending on condition

being treated.

​Safe for:  Older puppies and adult dogs. NOT safe for nursing moms; For Lyme - use Amoxi if nursing and symptomatic​

Gabapentin – Chronic Pain

Treatment: Arthritis

Rymadil – Pain (Athritis and post surgical)

Dosing: 2 mg. per pound

Ivermectin – Demodex mange

Dosing: .6 cc per 25 lb. approx.

Metronidazole – Giardia

Symptoms: Diarrhea, metallic odor

Cleaning: Bleach – 1 cup per gallon of water

Dosage: 2 X Daily  (Rounded DOWN if needed)

​Safe for:  Adult dogs.  NOT recommended for young puppies – under 4 months age.  Or for nursing moms.

Liquid Metro – 100mg/ml

Dosage:  .07 cc/lb.

Panacur – Giardia (also Tapeworms, Hooks, Whip worms)

Also known as: Fenbendazole, SafeGuard wormer

Symptoms: Giardia - Diarrhea, metallic odor; Worms - various but soft bloody stools

Dosing:  1 cc. per 5 pounds (.2 cc. per lb.), 1x per day for 3 to 5 days (safe for puppies)

Safe for: puppies and nursing moms​

Tylan Powder – Cryptosporidium

w/ antibiotics (Clavamox or Azithromycin)

Symptoms: Watery, yellow diarrhea, lethargy, vomiting, loss of appetite, dehydration, weight loss

Cleaning: Ammonia solution (properly diluted - 1:9) OR High heat steam (200°F+)

Dosage: 1 cc per 10 lb. (Powder mix 1 t. in 2 ½ T. water)

Frequency: Usually given every 12 hours (twice daily).

Duration: Often prescribed for 7 to 14 days, though for chronic conditions, it can be much longer

Symptoms: watery or mucousy diarrhea, dehydration, abdominal distress, and vomiting

Cleaning:  Ammonia – 1 cup per 9 cups water

Dosing:  .18 cc. per lb. OR .91 cc  per 5 lbs;  1 x per day for 3 days  (safe for puppies)

Preventative - 1 x per day for 3 days @ 2 wks and 5 wks

​Safe for: Young puppies and nursing moms

Wormers

Cestex  –  Tapeworms

Panacur – Whips/ Tapes/Rounds/Hooks

Dosing:  1 cc. per 5 pounds

Pyrantel - Roundworm/Hooks (both)

Dosing: 1 cc. per 10 pounds

Parvo - Treatment Options

• Convenia shot

• Amoxi and Baytril (if really bad- antibiotics)

Flea and Tick

NOTE: Puppies younger than 4 weeks -   should not receive topical treatments; can be given a Dawn bath

Dawn Bath:

• Put a ring of Dawn around the neck to keep fleas from moving up the body to the head during bath.

• Immerse in water to the neck.  Avoid getting head, ears, and eye wet  

• Lather w/ Dawn to kill live fleas

• Let stand with Dawn/water on fur for at least 5 minutes. 

• Rinse thoroughly and dry.
